FAQ

What is a Minuet?

A Minuet is a hybrid breed created by crossing small bodied Persian cats with short legged Munchkin cats. The result of this pairing is a miniature persian cat dubbed a Minuet. These little cats are just as beautiful as their larger counterparts and possess many of the same traits as a standard Persian.

Persian cat personalities are sweet, gentle, and patient. They’re friendly cats that prefer calm environments but can easily adapt to more active households. Persian cats love to relax and lounge around their environment. They have a sweet nature and will sit on your lap or cuddle with you when the mood strikes them.

Our Queen, Dab is a Chinchilla Silver (White) Minuet.

What is a Ragamuffin?

While the details are foggy, it’s generally agreed that Ragamuffins were created by Ragdoll owners who crossed the breed with other longhaired cats, including Turkish Angoras, Himalayans, Persians, and longhaired domestic cats. In doing so, they increased the breed’s size and expanded the colors and patterns associated with these fur balls.

Ragamuffin cats tend to be overly affectionate and “puppy-like” and have a tendency to stretch out and go limp in their owners arms. Ragamuffins are docile, friendly and have a sweet temperament. Owners of this particular breed might even think they’ve grown a second shadow, because Ragamuffins love to provide their humans with some serious companionship. Their pleasant demeanor makes them excellent pets for homes with children and other animals.

These fluffy fur balls are attention-seekers, who enjoy playtime, walks on a leash, and can even learn a trick or two.

Our Daddy cat, Nug, is a Seal Point Bicolor teacup Ragamuffin.

What is a Doll Face Persian?

A Doll Face Persian is a Persian cat with a traditional Persian face that has a longer snout instead of the newer flatter faced Persian of today. Before cat fanciers started selectively breeding Persians to have a flat face with the nose between the eyes, Persians had a normal cat face. Now these Persians that do NOT have a flat face are known as Doll Face Persians.

The advantage to a Doll Face Persian over the newer flat faced one is that they have fewer respiratory issues and far less eye drainage because they have room for proper tear ducts. Not having to clean under your kitties eyes every day is a great benefit.

Do the kittens come with papers?

We do not provide papers with our kittens. We intend our babies to go to pet homes only where they will be loved and cherished as a member of the family. Our mommy and daddy cats all come from papered top tier lines however their personalities just as much as their looks is why we have chosen them to breed. If you are looking for an affectionate, loving, lifelong companion you’ve found just the right place. If you’re seeking your next blue ribbon animal, we aren’t the breeder for you.

At what age do kittens go home?

Our kittens are kept on average until 12-14 weeks of age. The exact time we release a kitten to its forever home is based solely on how that kitten is eating, growing, and maturing. Some kittens take a bit longer to be ready to fly solo, and some take less time. It is entirely our discretion as to when we feel a kitten is ready to move on to its forever home. Again we want to send home a healthy, thriving, confident, and well adjusted kitten that is ready to be a loving part of your family and achieving this takes a bit of time and every kitten is different and moves at its own pace.

Can you request specific colors or personality traits when reserving a kitten?

You absolutely can! Be aware however that such requests, especially those for a specific color, are likely to make your wait much longer. I cannot guarantee a certain color coming out in a litter so you may have to wait through several litters to find the right kitten. Again, we are a small breeder and only have a limited number of litters per year. Keeping an open mind on color options may mean finding your furever friend much sooner. Every one of our kittens has an amazing, outgoing, loving, and affectionate purrsonality and each will be an amazing addition to their furever family. If you would like a certain trait like a more playful kitten or perhaps one that prefers a lot of snuggles etc please let us know and we will try to match you with the right kitten from a litter.

Can you breed with the kitten you purchase from us?

Breeding these small cats requires some experience and not every tiny cat can be safely bred. Female cats weighing less than 6 pounds should NEVER be bred. The pregnancy will take a heavy toll on the mother cat and pregnancy in a cat that small will almost ALWAYS require a C-Section delivery. Often a cat this small will die as a result of this and many times the kittens don’t make it either. It is a heartbreaking situation that can be absolutely avoided by a responsible pet owner.

Because it is not in the best health interest of our babies to put them through the surgical procedure to spay or neuter them before they reach 6 months of age we have implemented the following procedures regarding our kittens:

We would prefer all of our babies to be spayed or neutered. To encourage this , we charge a refundable Breeding Rights fee at the time of adoption for each kitten. This fee is $600. As part of the adoption process you will receive and sign a breeding contract stating that you have until your kitten reaches 9 months of age to have them spayed or neutered to receive a full refund of the $600 breeding fee. Simply send us the documentation from your vet showing that your kitten has undergone the procedure and we will fully refund your $600. If we have not received proof of spay or neuter past your kittens 9 month mark we will assume you have chosen not to have the procedure and plan to breed the cat and will keep the breeding rights fee. We will send out a reminder as you approach the 9 month mark as a courtesy.

What is PKD? (Polycystic Kidney Disease)

Polycystic kidney disease (PKD) is an inherited condition in cats that causes multiple cysts (pockets of fluid) to form in the kidneys. These cysts are present from birth. Initially, they are very small, but they grow larger over time and may eventually disrupt kidney function, resulting in kidney failure.

This heartbreaking disease is extremely common in Persian cats in particular. Our breeding cats have ALL been tested and are NEGATIVE for PKD. No matter where you decide to buy your new kitten, especially if they have Persian in their lines, make sure the parents have both been tested for this terrible and avoidable disease.

How much grooming will your kitten need? What tools should you use?

Our cats are all Medium to Longhaired so they do require some grooming. We start brushing each kitten around 3 weeks of age and we brush them every day after. They don’t have tangles this young but getting them used to the activity early goes a long way to making your cat enjoy grooming time as they get older and actually need it. We greatly suggest keeping up with this grooming routine for the first few months your kitten is home. Once your baby is used to you brushing it daily and seems comfortable with it you can move to only brushing them a few times a week. We find a long toothed comb like the one pictured here to be best for removing tangles and the best brush is a small slicker brush. Comb the entire kitty first and then run the slicker brush through to finish up.

We also begin bathing our kittens at an early age and by the time your baby comes home it will have already had 5-7 baths if not more. Cats in general don’t love water but starting them out young again goes a long way to getting them accustomed to the process. In general our babies don’t mind bath time and some even truly enjoy it.

Nail trimming is another very important part of the grooming process and we begin trimming our kittens nails around 4 weeks of age. We trim them once a week mostly to help get the kitten used to the process. Most kitties do not like having their paws held and again getting them accustomed to this at an early age is key. You will need to trim your babies nails every couple of weeks but we again suggest doing it weekly for the first few months while they are adjusting to you.

For kitties experiencing eye drainage we use gentle eye wipes meant for cats to clean under the eyes daily. There are several products on the market that help with this however we really like the brand Eye Envy. Their powder in particular is great and is easily applied with a Qtip after cleaning.

Are the kittens litter box trained?

Yes all of our kittens have been taught to use the litter box in our home. This does not mean you won’t have any accidents while transitioning them to your home but it should make the process faster and easier for you as they will already be familiar with the idea and will only need to learn their new litter box location and perhaps get used to a new brand of litter or different style box etc. Some kittens are more particular and have a harder time with these little changes and some kittens don’t seem to care at all.

What type of litter are the kittens used to?

We use Pretty Litter in all of our litter boxes. It is by far the best brand we have found for several reasons including its amazing odor control. We very much suggest sticking with this brand but you should be able to transition to whatever you prefer. Please be sure to buy litter that is dust free as the dust in litter causes respiratory issues in cats.

Most important is that you keep all litter boxes very CLEAN at all times. They are used to a clean box as we keep ours very clean all of the time. Cats are clean animals and do not like to step on poop or dirty litter and your kitten will use the bathroom in undesirable locations if its litter box is too dirty. You should scoop the box every day, more than once if possible.

What kind of food are the kittens used to eating?

We feed all of our kittens with Royal Canine Mother & Baby Cat food both the dry and wet versions. We highly suggest sticking with this brand as it is truly one of the best on the market. We would transition from the Mother & Baby Cat food to their Kitten formula and eventually to their adult formulations.

When your kitten comes home we will send with them a small amount of the Mother & Baby Cat food to get you started.

Other good brand options are Purina Pro Plan and Hills Science Diet.

If you do change the food brand for your kitten it is very important you do not do so abruptly and take the time to slowly transition your baby to the new brand. Start by feeding mostly the Mother & Baby Cat food with just a small amount of the new brand mixed in. Over several days add more and more of the new food until there is more of the new brand than the old and eventually replace the old entirely. The more slowly you do this the better for your little ones tummy.

Can you guarantee the final size/weight of a kitten?

No, we cannot. Our kittens come from lines that produce very small cats but genetics can be tricky and because we have achieved this smaller stature by responsible breeding practices it is possible that occasionally a more “normal” sized cat may be produced despite the size of the parents etc. In general, our kittens grow up to weigh between 5-9lbs.

I am not in Alaska, can I have a kitten delivered to me?

Yes, we are able to deliver kittens to just about anywhere there is major airport in the United States. We will fly with your kitten in the cabin with us to your chosen major airport where you will need to meet us and pick up your kitten. We DO NOT send kittens as cargo under the plane. We ONLY offer this for families in the United States and do not send kittens elsewhere. The price for this service varies dependent on flight prices at the time of travel. In general flight prices to and from Alaska peak during the summer months when tourist season in AK is in full swing.

I live in Alaska, can I meet the kitten in person before adoption?

Yes! Due to some unfortunate meetings we no longer invite people into our home with our children to visit our kittens but we are happy to arrange a meetup at a public location for you to meet the kittens in person. If you would like to make arrangements for this just let us know when arranging your kitten adoption and we will work it out.
